Jana Jae to fiddle at Wal-Mart

Jana Jae and her blue fiddle, along with the band Hotwire are coming to Portales to perform a free concert at 7 p.m. Saturday at Wal-Mart in Portales at 1604 E. Spruce St.

Jae, a Hee Haw fiddle player, has toured in Japan, Australia and the Phillppines and is a two-time Ladies National Champion Fiddler.

“I am thrilled about coming to your area,” Jae said. “We have a great family show and a terrific concert brought to our friends and neighbors by Wal-Mart.”

Fall handbell festival upcomingSt. Philip Neri hosts festival

The 60th annual Thanksgiving Festival will be held from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. Nov. 24 at St. Neri Parish Hall in Pep, Texas. The Pep community comes together to serve German sausage and turkey with all the trimmings on Thanksgiving day.

Cost is $8 per plate and children under 10 $4. Take out plates available until 2 p.m. cost $8. There will also be a country store with handmade crafts, home made baked goods and a fish pond and grab bags for children. A raffle for $500 in cash and other prizes will be held. Day Spa holds open house

The Hydrations Day Spa co-owners Adam and Brook Smith will have an open house from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. today and Saturday. Hydrations Day Spa offers facials, massages and beauty treatments. Adam Smith said it is the one-year anniversary of the business. They will have drawings to give away products and prizes. For more information, call 762-3927.

Commissioner candidate in city

Roosevelt County Democratic Women will meet at noon on Monday at The Territorial House on the square. Ray Powell, Jr., candidate for state land commissioner, will be the featured speaker.

Group to hold book sale

Thousands of used books will be for sale at the annual Friends of the Portales Public Library used book sale going on 10 a.m. to 7 p.m. Friday and 8 a.m. to noon Saturday in the meeting room of the library at 218 South Avenue B. All proceeds from the sale, which is the group’s largest fund raiser, are used to support activities at the Portales Public Library throughout the year.

Sealed bids for a minimum of $100 will be taken through noon Saturday at the front desk of the library for all unsold books from the sale. The winning bidder will be responsible for removing the used books from the library at a mutually agreed upon time and date.

Donations of used books to the sale may be made to the library any day during regular business hours. For more information, call the library at 356-3940.
