Frances Holt

Mrs. Frances Holt, 78, died Friday, Sept. 23, 2005, at Roosevelt General Hospital in Portales.

She was born Dec. 23, 1926, in Gideon, Mo. to Lucille and Arthur T. Johnson.

She grew up in Arkansas and Louisiana. She graduated from Byrd High School in Shreveport, La. She worked for Western Union during WWII.

She married Bobby Chappell Holt at the Caddo Heights Baptist Church in Shreveport on Feb. 24, 1946. In 1959, they moved to Albuquerque where they raised their family. In 1985, they moved to Portales.

Family members said she spent the majority of her life as a devoted homemaker raising and caring for her family. She enjoyed playing the piano, traveling, camping, fishing and caring for her grandchildren.

She was a longtime Christian and member of University Baptist Church in Portales and enjoyed taking part in her Sunday School class.

She was preceded in death by her parents; brother, James H. Johnson; and her husband, Bobby Chappell Holt, Sr., who died March 28, 1998.

Survivors include three sons, Bobby Chappell, Jr., of Albuquerque, Timothy L. (and wife Sara) Holt of Edgewood, and Mike (Amy) Holt of Portales; daughter, Cindy (Chris) Frederick of Odessa, Texas; nine grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; and two sisters, Pat Campbell of Shreveport, La. and Sue Johnson of Shreveport, La.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests contributions be made in Mrs. Holt’s memory to the Baptist Children’s Home, 2200 S. Ave. I, Portales, N.M. 88130.
