David Watkins

David Wayne Watkins, 39, of Waco, Texas, died Sunday, Oct. 30, 2005, at a Fort Worth, Texas hospital.

He was in the U.S. Air Force and stationed at Cannon Air Force Base.

Survivors include his wife, Debbie Kilgore Watkins; three daughters, Hollie, Anna and Maria, all of Waco, Texas; mother, Edna Fortman (and husband, Bob) of Granbury, Texas; sister, Sherri Smith (Jaimie) of Burleson, Texas; uncles, James Johnson (Anita) of Dallas, Texas, Truman Johnson (Jan) of Baird, Texas and M.L. Johnson (Helen) of Denver, Colo .; aunts, Martha Jo Honnol (Clint) and Betty Sue Owen (Bill), all of Amarillo; father-in-law, Wayne Kilgore (Teresa) of Clovis; brother-in-law, Chris Kilgore (Sandra) of Lubbock; nephews, Zachary and Grant Smith; and niece, Elizabeth Kilgore.

Harold “Bud” Elliott

Mr. Harold “Bud” Elliott, 73, of Portales, died Tuesday, Nov. 1, 2005, at Lubbock Heart Hospital in Lubbock.

He was born Dec. 24, 1931, in Miami County, Kan., to Ellis Lucille and Harold Francis Elliott. He grew up in Drexel, Mo., and graduated from Drexel High School. He received his bachelor’s degree from Baker University. He later earned his master’s degree in school administration from Wichita State University. He was the head football coach at ENMU for 11 seasons. He was the winningest head coach in the history of ENMU Greyhound football. He coached numerous athletes who went on to become professional athletes or coaches at high school and professional levels. He holds positions in the athletic halls of fame at Baker University and Southwestern. He was inducted into Eastern New Mexico’s Hall of honors on Oct. 1.

Family members said he loved football, traveling and meeting people.

He was preceded in death by his parents.

Survivors include his wife, Kathy Elliott of Portales; son, David Elliott of Dallas, Texas; step-son, David Trepanier of Orange County, Calif .; daughters, Cindy Elliott (and husband, Don) of Arlington, Texas, Janis Stein (Karl) of Corpus Christi, Texas, Sharon Saueressig (Tom) of Burlington, Kan., and Susan Mitchell (Charles) of Corpus Christi, Texas; step-daughter, Lisa Dellinger of Seal Beach, Calif .; 14 grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; and two sisters, Mary Ann Henderson of Adrian, Mo., and Fran Fritts (Bob) of Millbrook, Ala.

Rev. Mary Sue Hull officiated the service.

Daphna Sartain

Services: 1 p.m. Thursday at Trinity United Methodist Church in Clovis.

Mrs. Daphna Alana Sartain, 91, of Clovis, died Friday, Nov. 4, 2005, at Plains Regional Medical Center in Clovis.

She was born July 5, 1914, in Wellington, Texas, to Joel M. and Eula Tate Gibbs. She graduated from Melrose High School in 1932 and taught at Valley View School and Field School for two years. She married James H. “Jimmie” Sartain Jr. on June 30, 1934, at the home of her parents in the Field community. They farmed for 23 years before moving to Clovis in 1957. She was active in the county extension clubs and sang in the church choir. She worked as a seamstress at the Vohs Company.

Family members said she enjoyed sewing for her daughters and grandchildren. She was a member of Trinity United Methodist Church.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband; two sisters, Thelma Elliot and Evie LaRue; a brother, Joffre Gibbs; and a granddaughter, Chana Dawn

Survivors include two daughters, Agatha Sartain and Patsy Merritt (and husband, Thomas); five grandchildren, Chantel Shipman, Josam, Brenda, Jacque and Brittany Joffrion; four great-grandchildren, McKenzie, Julia, Harrison and Claire Joffrion; and numerous nieces and nephews.

The Rev. Wayne Salguero will officiate.

Burial will be at the family farm.

Memorial contributions may be made to the Memorial Fund at Trinity United Methodist Church in Clovis.

Arlin Coke

Services: Have already been held

Mr. Arlin Ray Coke, 85, died Friday, Nov. 04, 2005, in Abilene, Texas.

Mr. Coke was born on Jan. 10, 1920, in Fisher County, Texas. He graduated from Plains (Texas) High School and Hardin-Simmons University. He married LaVonne Talley Coke of Portales on Feb. 1, 1947 in Abilene, Texas. He served in the Army Air Force from 1941 to 1944 during World War II with tours in Folgia and Piza, Italy. He was employed by Amerada Oil Co. for 28 years and for the U.S. Geological Survey for 10 years. He was a member of the Pioneer Drive Baptist Church in Abilene and a nine-year volunteer of Christmas in April in San Angelo, Texas.

Family members said he enjoyed family vacations, fishing trips, family get-togethers and reunions and was a devoted Christian.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Thomas Eugene Coke and Hattie Adair Coke, a sister, Geraldine Coke, and a brother, Loyd Eugene (Shorty) Coke.

He is survived by a daughter, Yolanda Decker (and husband, Oscar); a son, Rockney Coke (Kathleen); four grandchildren, Dr. Robby L. Coke (Heidi), BobbyeJo Coke, Nicole Vines and Julia Decker; a great grandson, Matthew Thomas Coke; two brothers, Henry Earl “Bud” Coke and Clyde Coke; three sisters, Sidney Murphey, Christine Henard and Jimmie Woodruff, along with numerous nieces, nephews and friends.

The Rev. Bill Wright officiated services. Burial followed in the Plains Cemetery.

Pallbearers were Oscar Henard, Corky Coke, Buddy Coke, David Coke, Kirby Talley, Douglas Toombs, Terry Shaw and Loren Toombs.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be sent to the donors favorite charity.
