Lawrence (Bob) Thurman, 91, of Farwell, Texas, died Tuesday, Aug. 23, 2005, at Farwell Convalescent Center.

Mr. Thurman was born Jan. 8, 1914, in Hopkins County, Texas, to Robert and Dollie Thurman.

He came from a large family in which he had 11 brothers and sisters. He moved to Clovis in the 1940s and was a World War II veteran. He owned and operated Western Wrecking Yard on Mabry Drive for 27 years. He loved to fish and “wheel and deal” in used cars and trucks, family members said.

He was preceded in death by his parents; his first wife, Helen; his second wife, Eloise; one infant son, Larry Lynn Thurman, and a daughter, Georgia Carol Brock Rizzuti.

He is survived by a son, Robert Thurman of Farwell; two daughters, Roberta Cameron of Tucson, Ariz., and Linda Stensvad of Clovis; four grandsons, Eric Brock of New York, Scott Stensvad of Clovis, Trevor Thurman of Clovis and Jacob Thurman of Clovis; a granddaughter, Cydney Thurman of Clovis and a sister, Kate Gerdy of Portales.

The Rev. Roy H. Stewart will officiate services.

Arrangements are by Steed-Todd Funeral Home of Clovis.
