Base commander nominated for promotion

Col. John D. Posner, 27th Fighter Wing commander at Cannon Air Force Base, has been nominated by President Bush to the Senate for appointment to the grade of brigadier general.

The promotion is subject to Senate approval.

U.S. Sen. Jeff Bingaman said Posner is deserving of the promotion.

“I wish him well as he continues to serve our nation,” Bingaman said.

Posner has been the wing commander at Cannon since April 2004. He is responsible for the mission-ready status of 27th Fighter Wing Airmen and units to ensure they are capable of supporting combatant commanders, as directed — providing on-call airpower for contingency operations worldwide.

He has flown more than 3,800 hours, including more than 200 hours of combat time.

The colonel was commissioned in 1980 upon graduation from the U.S. Air Force Academy.

He has served in various operational and training assignments in the F-16, F-15 and T-37. He completed a tour on the Air Staff, serving in numerous positions.
