Cannon honored for excellence

October 21, 2005

Cannon Air Force Base was honored as the top base among Air Combat Command installations for the second straight year, according to an Air Force press release.

Cannon was named as the command-level winner of the 2006 Commander-in-Chief Installation Excellence Award on Friday in a ceremony at Langley Air Force Base in Virginia.

The award recognizes outstanding and innovative efforts of the people who operate and maintain U.S. military installations.

Cannon will receive $100,000 for quality-of life-improvements, the release said.

Last year, Cannon used the award to buy fitness equipment for the gym and renovate the recreational facility, said Capt. Andre Kok, who is with the base’s public affairs office.

Capt. Dat Lam, a member of the Air Combat Command award evaluation team, said during the team’s visit to Cannon they observed positive, focused people.

“People were excited and happy to be there, and it reflected in their work,” Lam said. “

Davis-Monthan Air Force Base in Arizona was the runnerup for the award.

ACC evaluators were particularly impressed with Cannon’s “level of community involvement,” Kok said.

Evaluators also reviewed Cannon on its improvement, work environment, quality of life, productivity, customer satisfaction, communication and environmental safety, Kok said.

Cannon is now eligible to compete at Air Force level and will be visited by Langley evaluators in early 2006, the release said.
