Group to discuss preparedness

The Roosevelt County Democratic Women will sponsor a luncheon for the Democratic Party at noon on Monday at the Territorial House. Chuck Haman will speak about Emergency Preparedness in Roosevelt County. Everyone is welcome to attend this dutch-treat luncheon.

There will also be the classic Frank Capra film “Mr. Smith Goes to Washington”, shown at 7 p.m. on Wednesday in the Meeting Room at Portales Public Library. The movie is free and free popcorn will be served. Following the film there will be a discussion. This showing of the film is sponsored by Friends for Democracy.

Energy discussed in local forum

Global warning and energy issues will be the topic for an open forum at 7 p.m. on Monday in the Sandia Room of the Campus Union Building at Eastern New Mexico University. The panelists for this forum are Ken Leap, meteorologist, formerly of the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration, Daniel Acheson-Brown, associate professor of political science, Mercedes Agogino, professor emeritus of physics, James Constantopoulos, associate professor of geology, and Mary Ayala, professor of modern languages.

The forum is sponsored by Friends for Democracy, American Association of University Women, and ENMU Department of Political Science. Anyone can attend.
