Meet at the pole

A good number of students and teachers meet at the flag pole Wednesday morning to join in the national “Meet at the Pole” prayer for peace and guidance. Ruben Tellez led the prayer, thanking God for students and asking help for victims of the hurricanes.

Student council elections

Andrea Brown and Raymond Ornelas will serve as co-presidents for Portales Junior High School this year. Makynsi Whited and Timothy Brooks fill in as co-vice-presidents. Co-secretaries are Terasa Shirley and Matthew Poynor while Marissa Best and Timothy Smith complete the slate as co-treasurers.

Gridiron games

Tuesday finds the seventh-grade football team heading to Clovis to play Yucca. Thursday the eighth-grade team also plays Yucca in Clovis.

Break time

Junior high students enjoy a 10-minute break between second and third period classes. During this time students relax in the courtyard and have the opportunity to buy snacks from a class organization. The yearbook and the Future Consumer/Career Leaders of America alternate duties to raise funds for their activities.

Volleyball net news

The girls have only one game scheduled this week. Both seventh and eighth grade “A” teams will host Texico on Thursday.

Music makers

Band director Cindy Stone has had students practicing music and marching as they prepare to march in the Steiner book parade Friday and Eastern New Mexico University’s homecoming parade Saturday. Students will be auditioning Nov. 5 to participate in the All District Concert December 9 and 10.
