Margaret Torres

Services: 10 a.m. Saturday at St. Helen Catholic Church in Portales.

Mrs. Margaret Torres, 85, of Portales, died Wednesday, Sept. 21, 2005, at Heartland Continuing Care Center in Portales.

She was born Jan. 28, 1920, in New Kirk to Teofila and Juan B. Aragon.

She grew up in New Kirk. As a young woman, she lived in Tucumcari and later in Clovis before moving to Portales in 1961. She was active in the Foster Grandparents, RSVP and Senor Companion Programs for a number of years.

Family members said she enjoyed dancing and sewing.

She was a member of St. Helen Catholic Church.

She was preceded in death by her parents; three brothers, Dionicio, Luther and Alfonso Aragon; and one sister, Angelina Sandoval.

Survivors include her son, Johnny (and wife Candace) Baros of Portales; six daughters, Alma Martinez (Paul) of Albuquerque, Nora Eppley (Don) of Houston, Texas, Mable Romero (Juan) of Portales, Yolanda Romero of Tecumseh, Neb., Neva Ortega (Alberto) of Portales and Cindy Ortega (Polo) of Portales; 16 grandchildren; 26 great-grandchildren; three great-great-grandchildren; brother, Arturo Aragon of Albuquerque; and two sisters, Maxine Soltelo of Portales and Della Luevanos of Clovis.

A rosary will be recited on Friday, Sept. 23 at 7:30 p.m.

Deacon Daniel Chavez will celebrate the mass.

Burial will be in Portales Cemetery.

Pallbearers are Cheryl Martinez, Gary Romero, Penny Ortega, Michael Ortega, Heather Baros and Renee Baros.

Arrangements are by Wheeler Mortuary in Portales.
