CANYON, Texas — Eastern New Mexico University finished second in men’s competition and third in women’s standings on Friday in the season-opening Buffalo Stampede cross country meet, hosted by West Texas A&M.

Angelo State took both team titles, edging ENMU by three points (26-29) for men’s honors. The Rams and Greyhounds were the only full men’s team in the field.

Angelo took the top two spots in the four-mile men’s race, while ENMU’s Felix Boit and Jason Garcia finished third and fourth with times of 22 minutes, 5 seconds.

Angelo scored 29 points to 45 for WT and 64 for Eastern in women’s competition. Sophomore Joyce Doan had the Zias’ best finish, coming in sixth in 21:12 over five kilometers.
