Mildred Prince, 90

Services: 10 a.m. Tuesday at Wheeler Mortuary Chapel

Mrs. Mildred Prince, 90, of Portales died Saturday, Aug. 27, 2005, at Plains Regional Medical Center.

She was born July 8, 1915, in Tucumcari to Lily Mae and Virgil V. Simmerly.

She grew up in Missouri and Tucumcari, where she graduated from high school in 1933 and was a member of the National Honor Society. She married Joseph Malcolm Prince on June 4, 1934, in Clovis. She graduated from Moody Bible Institute in Chicago on Dec. 19, 1941 with a diploma in religious education. She spent her life working alongside her husband in Christian ministry for 31 years throughout New Mexico.

Family members said she was devoted to mission work, particularly in Africa, and enjoyed her involvement in the ladies class at First Baptist Church in Los Lunas.

She was a member of Emmanuel Baptist Church in Portales.

She was preceded in death by her parents and her husband of 50 years, Joseph Malcolm Prince, who died March 30, 1985.

She is survived by two daughters, Jan Henderson of Portales and Joanne Hendrickson (and husband, Henry) of Las Vegas, Nev.; three granddaughters, Karen Cox of Las Vegas, Nev., Lisa Craig of Bosque Farms, and Sonya Bitner of Elm Springs, Ark.; a son, Gerald Hendrickson of Albuquerque; six great-grandchildren, Carmen Chapel and Michelle Chapel, both of Battle Mountain, Nev., Rikki Bitner and Brandon Bitner, both of Elm Springs, Ark., and Kaitlyn Craig and Ian Craig of Bosque Farms; a half-brother, John Simmerly of Sullivan, Mo.; a sister, Edna Mae Stumpf of New Orleans, La.; and two half-sisters: Lizzie Simmerly and Betty Hardy, both of Sullivan, Mo.

The Rev. Walter Huber will officiate services.

Burial will take place at 2 p.m. Wednesday at Sunset Memorial Park, Gallup.

Arrangements are by Wheeler Funeral Home of Portales.

Ernest Carter, 57, of Portales died Saturday, Aug. 27, 2005, at his home.

Funeral arrangements will be announced by Wheeler Mortuary in Portales.
