Lawrence Thurman

Services: 2 p.m. Saturday at the Steed-Todd Chapel in Clovis.

Lawrence (Bob) Thurman, 91, of Farwell, Texas, died Tuesday, Aug. 23, 2005, at Farwell Convalescent Center.

Mr. Thurman was born Jan. 8, 1914, in Hopkins County, Texas, to Robert and Dollie Thurman.

He came from a large family in which he had 11 brothers and sisters. He moved to Clovis in the 1940s and was a World War II veteran. He owned and operated Western Wrecking Yard on Mabry Drive for 27 years. He loved to fish and “wheel and deal” in used cars and trucks, family members said.

He was preceded in death by his parents; his first wife, Helen; his second wife, Eloise; one infant son, Larry Lynn Thurman, and a daughter, Georgia Carol Brock Rizzuti.

He is survived by a son, Robert Thurman of Farwell; two daughters, Roberta Cameron of Tucson, Ariz., and Linda Stensvad of Clovis; four grandsons, Eric Brock of New York, Scott Stensvad of Clovis, Trevor Thurman of Clovis and Jacob Thurman of Clovis; a granddaughter, Cydney Thurman of Clovis and a sister, Kate Gerdy of Portales.

The Rev. Roy H. Stewart will officiate services.

Arrangements are by Steed-Todd Funeral Home of Clovis.

Janice Ward

Services: 11 a.m. Saturday at the Steed-Todd Chapel.

Janice Gayle Ward, 51 of Rio Rancho, died Wednesday, Aug. 24, 2005, at her home in Rio Rancho.

Miss Ward was born March 3, 1954, in Clovis to Henry Allen and Dorothy Marie Fisher Ward.

Family members said she was diagnosed with mental retardation at the age of 6. Her parents were charter members of the Curry County Association of Retarded Children.

Miss Ward was a governing board member of the Silver Bullet Civitan Club where she donated many hours helping people in need. She often spent holidays singing with the

Salvation Army’s Carolers at Christmas.

Family members remembered her joyous laughter, her feisty nature, and her desire to make things better for everyone.

She was preceded in death by her parents; a sister, Mary Joanne Ward Campbell, and a brother, John William Ward.

She is survived by two sisters, Jeannie Marie Ward and her guardian/sister Jennifer Dirindia Ward, both from the Albuquerque/Rio Rancho area; a brother, Joel Denton Ward of the Albuquerque Rio Rancho area; two sisters-in-law, Rose Mary Williams and Lynna Hunter and several aunts and cousins.

A visitation will take place at Steed-Todd Funeral Home from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m. tonight. A memorial service is also planned in Albuquerque.

Burial will be at Lawn Haven Memorial Gardens in Clovis.

In lieu of flowers, contributions to the ARC of New Mexico, ARCA, Adelante Development Center, Families Plus, RCI, Goodwill, and especially to Dungarvin New Mexico, or a DD provider of your choice, will be accepted by the family.
