Walter C. "Buck" Garrett, 98, of Clovis, died Saturday, June 4, 2005, at his home.

He was born on July 2, 1906, in Old Greer County, Oklahoma Indian Territory, to Charles Franklin and Lexia Bullard Garrett.

He married Bonnie Robertson on May 8, 1928, in Erick, Okla.

He was a cowboy, a veteran of the Texas National Guard Cavalry and of World War II, where he served in the Navy.

Family members said he enjoyed hunting, precision target tournaments, turkey shoots, and skeet shooting.

He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife; five sisters, Irene Barker, a baby girl Garrett, Velma Downey, Gladys Spencer, and Bernice Sansome; a son, Walter Clayton Garrett; a daughter, Charlotte Garrett Tignor; two grandsons, Schuyler Garrett and William H. Lassiter II; and a great-grandson, Daniel William Garrett.

Survivors include two daughters, Shirley Garrett Lassiter (and husband, Charles) of Clovis and Opal V. Garrett Goble (Louis) of Albuquerque; a son, S. Jerome Garrett (Madelyn) of Bull Shoals, Ark.; 14 grandchildren, Ann Lassiter, Lonzo Lassiter (DJ), Darlene Jenkins (Bob), Stan Lassiter, Kerry Zane Lassiter, all of Clovis, Katy McIlwee (Patrick) of Parkville, Mo., Bobbie Brooks (Steve) of Harper, Kan., Llewellyn Rees (Fred) of Phoenix, Cameron Goble (Margret) of Albuquerque, Janis Nunn (Danny) of Bellevue, Texas, Earl James Tignore of Chickasha, Okla., Walter C. Garrett IV of Eugene, Ore., and Cyndi Clements and Teresa Bahi, both of Sarasota, Fla.; two sisters, Helen Gumper (Forrest) of Dalhart, Texas, and Mabel Prock (Bob) of Dallas, Texas; 21 great-grandchildren; and 15 great-great-grandchildren.
