Nelson Naylor, 92, of Littlefield, Texas, died Wednesday, June 1, 2005, at Covenant Medical Center in Lubbock.

He was born on April 21, 1913, in Portales, to Joe and Esther Naylor.

He married Alice Betts on Aug. 28, 1938, in Portales. He managed Kemp Lumber Co. in Portales and Elida until 1945. The couple moved to Littlefield in 1945 where he bought Brannons Hardware and changed the name to Nelson Hardware which he continued to own and operate until his death. He was a member of the noon Lions Club and the Junior Chamber of Commerce, New Mexico Odd Fellows, and a former city councilman.

He was a member of the First Christian Church.

Family members said he enjoyed square and round dancing.

He was preceded in death by two sisters, Marjorie Ann Culpepper and Mamie Lois Wright.

Survivors include his wife; four daughters: Carol Jean Bartlett of Lubbock, Lena Lewis of Arlington, Texas, Letha Mae “Maisie” Birkelbach of Littlefield and Martha “Mert” Clark of Odessa, Texas; a brother, J.B. Naylor of Amarillo; seven grandchildren; and 10 great-grandchildren.

The Rev. Joe Stewart and the Rev. Frank Ingram will officiate the services.

Memorial contributions may be made to the Littlefield EMS, the New Mexico Christian Children Home, 1356 NM 236, Portales, N.M. 88130, or the First Baptist Church Building Fund.
