Helen Paschke

Services: 11 a.m. Wednesday at First Presbyterian Church in Clovis

Helen Paschke, 80, died Saturday, May 28, 2005, at Heartland Continuing Care Center in Portales.

She was born Aug. 19, 1924, to Lucy Mae and Grover Burton, in Spencer, N.C.

Paschke graduated from high school in 1941 in Spencer, N.C. She went attended Catawba College in Salisbury, N.C., for a year. At the end of that school year, she went to work in Civil Service in conjunction with the Signal Corps. She was involved in the development of technology to use facsimile machines on the battlefield. In the fall of 1948 she moved to Chicago to study dress design and tailoring at the Ray-Vogue School of Design. She married Donald Paschke on Feb. 17, 1951, in the Temple Methodist Church in Chicago. During the time that her husband was in the Army they made their home in Rolla, Mo. After he was discharged, they moved to Minneapolis and North Carolina before moving to Champaign-Urbana, Ill., where her husband attended college. When he graduated in 1958, they moved to Kentucky, and then to Portales in 1962. She was a member of the First Presbyterian Church in Clovis, and for many years she belonged to the University Women at Eastern New Mexico University.

She was preceded in death by her parents; and by a brother, Ralph Burton.

Survivors include her husband, of Portales; a son and daughter-in-law, David and Barbara Paschke of Stow, Mass.; a daughter, Celeste Deppmeier (and husband, Bernard) of Lake Forest, Calif.; four grandchildren, Kaitlyn Helen and Jacklyn Celeste Deppmeier, and Daniel Arum and Rebekah Srey Leap Paschke; a sister, Evelyn Patterson of Hillsborough, N.C.; a nephew, Donald F. Burton of Hurdle Mills, N.C.

Revs. Lance Clemmons and Scott King will officiate.

Burial will occur later at the Salisbury Cemetery in Salisbury, N.C.
