Mrs. Violet Opal Terry, 99, of Dora, died Wednesday, May 4, 2005, at her home.

She was born on Aug. 25, 1905, in Ellis County, Texas, to Laura and Harvey Johnson.

She and her husband owned and operated Terry’s Grocery in Dallas from 1930 to 1945. They moved to eastern New Mexico in 1946 and began ranching.

She was preceded in death by her parents; two sisters, Lillie Mae Breazeale and Ester Ferrell; a son, Ben Weatherall Jr.; and her husband, Arthur “Reg” Terry.

Survivors include a son, Arthur R. Terry of Dora; a grandson, Ben M. Weatherall III of Denton, Texas; a sister-in-law, Doris P. Weatherall of De Soto, Texas; six nieces, Tillie Johnson, Sue Harrison, Sylvia Wilson, Helen Ferguson, Sharon Caro and Lucia Wheat; two nephews, Butch and Michael Green; and a host of other family members.

Jim Hart will officiate the services.

Burial will be at Laurel Land Memorial Park in Dallas.

Pallbearers are Robert and Michael Green, Jeremy and Jason Wheat, and Willie and Van Wilson.

Arrangements are by Wheeler Mortuary of Portales.
