Car versus train, no injuries

A vehicle attempting to cross the railroad tracks just west of St. Vrain was struck by a train shortly before 7:55 a.m. Thursday, according to railroad officials.

No one was injured.

“There was a car that tried to beat the train, and obviously he didn’t make it through the crossing,” said Lena Kent, a spokesperson for Burlington Northern Santa Fe.

“The good news is he is OK, there are no injuries; he was just a little shaken up.”

Lt. Jimmy Glasscock of the New Mexico State Police said based on the information they received there were two people in the vehicle.

Kent said the accident led to minimal delays in rail service. The train involved in the accident originated in Kansas City, Kan., and was heading west toward Phoenix.
