Mrs. Corene Chambers, 75, of Portales, died Saturday, April 30, 2005, at her home.

She was born on April 5, 1930, in Slaton, Texas, to Julia and Lenore Hill.

She grew up in Texas and Arizona until the age of 12 when her family came to Portales. She married Stanley Eminger on June 1, 1946. She married James Carlisle on Aug. 30, 1947. She married Elmer Chambers on Nov. 27, 1972. She worked as a cook at a number of local restaurants including the Wagon Wheel, the Country Kitchen, Marie’s Coffee Cup and the Portales Inn. She retired in 1992. She was a member of the Emmanuel Baptist Church.

Family members said she enjoyed her morning coffee with friends at the Wagon Wheel Cafe, ceramics and other craft projects. She was active at the Portales Senior Citizens.

She was preceded in death by her parents; a brother, Raymond Hill; a sister, Jene Boyles; five grandchildren; and her husbands.

Survivors include four sons, Marvin Eminger (and wife, Cleta) of Cashion, Okla., James Carlisle (Diana) of Commerce City, Colo., John Carlisle (Tammy) of Cashion, Okla., and Ray Chambers (Roberta) of Santa Fe; seven daughters, Mary Hill (George) of Texico, Pearla Tivis (Delbert) of Clovis, Goldie Wall (Troy) of Lubbock, Clara Hughes (Ronny) of Plainview, Texas, Glenda Bell (Ernest) of Rose, Okla., Betty Etchepareborde (Nick) of Portales and Martha Robbins (Terry) of Azalea, Ore.; 79 grandchildren; 90 great-grandchildren; a great-great-grandchild; three brothers, Kenneth Hill of Movane, Kan., Walter Hill of Glenwood, Ark. and George Hill of Texico; a sister, Margaret Burchfield of Sumner, Wash.; numerous nieces and nephews.

The Rev. John Combs will officiate the services.

Burial will be at Floyd Cemetery.

Pallbearers are Duwain Hill, Keith Carlisle, Richard and Johnny Boyles, Bradley Bell, James and Walter Chambers, and Jory Russell.

Arrangements are by Wheeler Mortuary of Portales.
