Pheobia Grace Jones, 77, of Clovis, died Friday, April 1, 2005, at Covenant Medical Center in Lubbock.

She was born on May 15, 1927, in Lorena, Texas, to Benjamin Franklin and Bessie Mae Cooper.

She graduated from A.J. Moore High School in Waco, Texas, in 1942. She graduated from Wilberforce University in Wilberforce, Ohio, with a bachelor degree in 1946. She married William E. Jones on June 30, 1950, in Waco, and they moved to Clovis. She taught elementary classes for Clovis Municipal Schools. She worked as a guidance counselor in numerous Clovis schools until accepting the principal position at Highland Elementary School in 1978. She retired in 1992.

She was preceded in death by her parents; a brother, Benjamin Cooper Jr.; and a nephew, Bertram Cooper.

Survivors include her husband; two sons, William E. Jones Jr. of Houston and Robert J. Jones of Clovis; two granddaughters, Wendy RoShawn Jones of Houston and Mary Rose Jones of Denver; a great-grandson, Chase Joseph Jones of Houston; a sister, Della Mathis of Waco; a niece, Linda Mathis of Waco; a nephew, Benjamin David Cooper of Los Angeles; a brother-in-law, R.L. Mathis of Waco; two sisters-in-law, Joyce Madison and Naomi Cooper, both of Los Angeles; six great-nieces and nephews; six great-great-nieces and nephews; and two great-great-great-nieces.

The Rev. Keith Wilks and the Rev. Henry M. Williamson will officiate the services.

Burial will be at Lawn Haven Memorial Gardens in Clovis.

Pallbearers are Donald Beachum, Carl Evans, Chris Dixon, Gerald Babers, Wayne DeWeese and Curtis Majors.

Honorary pallbearers are members of the Tuesday Night bowling league, Highland Elementary faculty and staff, and Benjamin Cooper III.

Arrangements are by Muffley Funeral Home of Clovis.
