Cross country team signs 12

Eastern New Mexico University announced the signings of 12 cross country athletes, including two from Clovis.

The Zias received letters-of-intent from Melissa Clark and current Clovis senior Megan Willis.

Clark, who was CHS’s most valuable runner in 2003, will be a sophomore next year, but a redshirt freshman athletically.

“Signing Melissa to our cross country program is a tremendous achievement,” ENMU cross country coach Joel McMullen said. “We are really striving to recruit from this area and throughout New Mexico, and Melissa was a great signing for this program.”

Willis will also joined the squad, which finished ninth in the Lone Star Conference last year.

“Megan was recruited by several schools, and we feel that we accomplished something really special by having her sign with Eastern,” McMullen said.

Other signees included Derek Henio of Pine Hill, Brent Almand of The Woodlands (Texas), Krista Monaghan of Gallup, Joey Furlong of Menaul High School (Albuquerque), Porfitio Hernandez of Carlsbad, Michael Thomas of Kirtland Central, Gilbert Lopez of West Las Vegas, Jacob Wiklund of Cloudcroft and Stacy Salazar and Keith Howard of Sandia High School (Albuquerque).
