Clifton Edwin White

Services: Have been held.

Clifton Edwin White, 62, of Silver City, died Feb. 28, 2005, at Mountain View Regional Medical Center in Silver City.

He was born on Aug. 23, 1942, in Artesia to Alvin Clifton and Doris Lucille (Hinrichsen) White.

He married Janice Ruth Wright Schwegman on Nov. 24, 1962, in Alamogordo.

He graduated from Roswell High School in 1960. He attended Eastern New Mexico University and Oklahoma City University. He did post-graduate work at Southwestern Oklahoma State University from 1967 through 1977 receiving his master of arts degree. He was inducted into the New Mexico Music Educators Association Music Hall of Fame in 2003. He performed professionally with many different bands.

He was preceded in death by his parents; a brother, James Robert White and a sister, Kathlyn White.

Survivors include his wife; a daughter Aletha (and husband, Steve); a son Benjamin (Nora); three grandchildren Kelsey, Jonathan and Zachary; a sister, Elizabeth Thayer; two aunts, Eleanor Hill (Shorty) and Maurine Gibbs; and an uncle, J.C. White.

Cremation has taken place.

Memorial contributions may be made to the Cobre Schools Band Program, P.O.Box 749, Bayard, NM 88023.

Arrangements are by Bright Funeral Home of Silver City.

Gerald Harper

Services: A private family memorial service will be held.

Mr. Gerald H. “Jake” Harper, 82, of Grady, died Friday, April 1, 2005, at his home.

He was born on Dec. 13, 1922, in Curry County to John Henry and Maggie Belle Moss Harper.

He married Fairene Weeks on July 26, 1947, in Clovis.

He attended and graduated from Grady School. He was a World War II Army infantry veteran, serving in the Atlantic and Pacific Theaters. He farmed in Curry County, worked for Grady schools, was manager for Continental Grain in Grady, and served as mayor of Grady. He was an avid Quarter Horse Breeder and won numerous racing and breeding awards, family members said.

He was preceded in death by his parents and one brother, Bill Harper.

Survivors include his wife; six daughters, Janis Rowe (and husband, Mike) of Ruidoso, Jakie Masters (Frankie) of Grady, Vicki Bunch (Bill) of Grady, Ricki Read (J Dee “Rusty) of Las Vegas, N.M., Judy Whitehead (Wade) of Tucumcari and Monti Pogue (Bubba) of Eastland, Texas; 19 grandchildren, Lee Thomas, Joeli Cathey, Bert, Jason and Jim Bob Sherwood, Chris and BJ Masters, Clint and Kyle Bunch, Fairann Long, Quail, Brooks, and Taylor Read, Jami Leathers, Clay Whitehead, Audra Leighton, Pecos, Jacob and Acy Pogue; 26 great-grandchildren; one great-great-grandchild; three brothers; and three sisters.
