Mr. Ray Whatley, 87, of Friona, died Wednesday, March 2, 2005, at Prairie Acres Nursing Home in Friona.

He was born on March 17, 1917, in Lockney, Texas, to James Andrew and Mary Elizabeth Whatley.

He married Polly Rucker on June 5, 1938, in Lockney, Texas. They moved to Clovis that same year. They lived here for two years and then moved to Santa Monica, Calif. After moving back to Clovis from California, he went to work for Gateway Automotive, and then GEBO’S until retiring in 1979. He was a member of Trinity United Methodist Church.

He was preceded in death by his wife; his parents; and a son, Paul Whatley.

Survivors include a son, Edwin Whatley of Rogers, Ark.; a grandson, Chad Whatley of Rogers, Ark.; two granddaughters, Malissa Wulfman of Rogers, Ark. and Kim Whatley of Westminster, Colo.; five great-grandchildren, and a daughter-in-law, Sue Hutton of Albuquerque.

The Rev. Wayne Salguero will officiate the services.

Burial will be at Lawn Haven Memorial Gardens in Clovis.

Memorial contributions may be made to the Trinity United Methodist New Building Fund.
