Robert Henry, 76

Services: 1 p.m. Thursday at the Panhandle Cemetery in Panhandle, Texas.

Robert Charles “Bob” Henry, 76, of Panhandle, Texas, died Monday, March 14, 2005 in Dallas.

He was born in Center, Okla., and graduated from Amarillo High School in 1947. He graduated from Southwestern Oklahoma and earned a master’s degree from the University of Oklahoma. He spent 37 years as a coach, teacher and principal in Clovis, Carnegie, Okla., Plainview, Texas, and Carlsbad before retiring from Portales. He was inducted into the Southwestern Oklahoma Sports Hall of Fame in 1990. He was a member of Paramount Baptist Church.

Survivors include three daughters, Brenda Sherwood (and husband, Scott) of Panhandle, Texas, Kathy Meier (Gene) of Weatherford, Okla.; and Susan Huckleberry of Seminole, Okla.; one brother, Bill Henry (Lois) of Hurst, Texas; two sisters, Rosie Bennett of Seminole, Okla., and Johnnie Grove of Shawnee, Okla.; nine grandchildren; Brock, Austin, Cho, J.D., Kristy, Crystal, Justin, Cole and Reed; and seven great grandchildren.

Arrangements are by Boxwell Brothers of Panhandle, Texas.

Lela Ward, 81

Services: 10 a.m. Thursday at Central Baptist Church in Clovis.

Mrs. Lela Ann Worley Ward, 81, of Clovis, died Sunday, March 13, 2005, at her home.

She was born on March 15, 1923, in Wauhillau, Adair County, Okla., to Arthur and Maud Sellers Worley.

She moved with her family to Stillwell, Okla. in 1924. They moved to Portales in 1935. She graduated from high school in 1940. She attended college at the Oklahoma College for Women and Eastern New Mexico University. She married Jay A. Ward on April 15, 1943, in Portales. They moved to Clovis in 1961. She was a bookkeeper in cotton gins she co-owned with her husband in Texas and New Mexico.

She was a member of Central Baptist Church in Clovis, the Encanto Garden Club, Pleasant Hill Women’s Club, Ranchvale Extension Club, United Daughters of the Confederacy and Daughters of the American Revolution. Family members said her hobbies were genealogy and gardening.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband; a son, Jan Lee; and two brothers, Clarence and Olan Worley.

Survivors include two sons, Jack Ward (and wife, Lydia) of Las Cruces, and Jody Ward (Karen) of Clovis; a daughter, Janette Pierce (Ben) of Wolfforth, Texas; a sister, Ruby Montgomery of Albuquerque; five grandchildren; and a great-grandchild.

Burial will be at Lawn Haven Memorial Gardens in Clovis.

The Rev. Mike Eberhardt and Joseph Vests will officiate services.

Pallbearers are Mike, Lyndon, Gayland and Gerald Ward, Carl Hahn and Victor Worley.
