Clovis man charged with kidnapping

A 20-year-old Clovis man was arrested Thursday after police said he held three people hostage, including his 2-year-old daughter.

Marcos Cerda is being held on $167,000 in bonds at the Curry County Adult Detention Center on three counts of kidnapping, two counts of battery, two counts of aggravated burglary, resisting arrest, child abuse and a laundry list of others.

According to police, the incident may have been related to a previous domestic dispute. Cerda had an outstanding warrant for battery on a household member, police said.

At one point a knife-wielding Cerda used a female as a shield when an officer approached at the residence in the 1500 block of Comer Street, according to the incident report. After a brief struggle with the woman, Cerda dropped the knife and bolted out the front, the report stated.

Police said he ran to a nearby residence and tried to gain entry.

One officer caught up with Cerda and began struggling with him, at which point the subject allegedly put the officer in a headlock, the report said.

With the help of additional officers, Cerda was taken into custody.
