Mrs. Jewell C. Riley, 93, of Clovis, died Sunday, Jan. 16, 2005, at the Retirement Ranch in Clovis.

She was born on May 25, 1911, in Palo Pinto County, Texas, to J. W. and Carrie Morrow. She married T. T. Riley in 1931 in Snyder, Texas. Family members said she was a loving housewife who enjoyed gardening, sewing, cooking, quilting and crocheting for family and friends. She was an active member and Sunday school teacher at First Baptist Church in Clovis prior to becoming a charter member of Parkland Baptist Church. Family members said she was an active choir member and faithfully served the Lord at both churches. She was an officer in the women’s organization of the Fireman’s Lodge, Brotherhood of Locomotive Firemen and Enginemen with the Atchison, Topeka, and Santa Fe Railroad. She also bowled in two women’s leagues.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband; three brothers, Willie, Charlie and James Morrow; and two sisters, Ella Lee Garms and Millie Allen.

Survivors include a son, Randall Riley (and wife, Kay) of Levelland, Texas; two daughters, Marilyn Hendricks (Wendall) of Farmington and Charlotte Devers (Don) of Carlsbad; 11 grandchildren; and 19 great-grandchildren.

Herbert Bergstrom will officiate the services, assisted by the Rev. Keeney Dickenson and David Walstad.

Burial will be at Lawn Haven Memorial Gardens in Clovis.

Pallbearers are her grandsons, Lyndol Hendricks, Tommie Riley, Curtis Devers, Chris Riley, Peter Ford, Bill Wood, Keeney Dickenson, Gary Sisemore and David George.

The family will receive visitors and friends from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. today at Steed-Todd Funeral Home.

Memorial contributions may be made to the New Mexico Baptist Children’s Home in Portales.
