Mrs. Mona Kaye Frances Maguire, 62, of Clovis, died Thursday, Jan. 13, 2005, her home in Clovis.

She was born on Sept. 23, 1942, in Melrose, to Walter Harrell Coburn and Bernice Cleo Coburn. She was a single mother in the early ’60s who worked three jobs to support her son and mother. She sold wrist bracelets for Prisoners Of War/Missing In Actions. She married William James Maguire on Jan. 15, 1972, in Clovis. She traveled to Holland where she and others made a bicentennial quilt for the queen of Holland, which they presented to the queen in person. After coming back to Clovis she took up an active role as a member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars Auxiliary, serving in the office of reporter, for which she won national recognition. She also made many trips to the Veterans Auxiliary Hospital dressed as a clown to boost the spirits of patients. She was involved in many community programs, from senior citizens to youth organizations. Family members said she was a loving and devoted Christian, wife, mother, and friend. She was a member of the 21st Street Church of Christ.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband; a son, James Harrell Randall; and a brother, Gene Coburn.

Survivors include a son, “Rusty” Joel D. Maguire of Warner Robins, Ga.; a daughter, Tina Louise Randall of Oklahoma; a brother, Everett C. Coburn of Carlsbad; six grandchildren, Iesha Randall, and Jacquie, Chris, Shaun, Brittany and Bryan Maguire

Albert Williams will officiate the services and Cecil Bunch will assist.

Cremation has taken place.

Arrangements are by Steed-Todd Funeral Home of Clovis.
