Mrs. Barbara “Polly” Evans, 71, of Portales, died Tuesday, Jan. 18, 2005, at Plains Regional Medical Center in Clovis.

She was born on April 15, 1933, in Portales, to Ellen and William F. Marcus.

She grew up in Floyd and graduated from Portales High School. She moved to Utah where she married Johnny Hart. Later she returned to Floyd to help her father on the farm and her mother at her cafe. For a time she was also employed at a local service station. On April 17, 1969, she married Bill Evans. For several summers she and her husband ran a motel in Cimarron. Family members said she enjoyed sewing dolls and crocheting and she also liked to watch westerns and read and listen to audio books. Family members also said she enjoyed music and often wrote songs and poems. She was a member of the Church of God in Portales.

She was preceded in death by her father; a brother, Eddie Floyd Marcus; a son, Phillip Evans; and her husband, Bill Evans.

Survivors include two sons, Marcus Hart (and wife, Becky) of Portales and James Hart (Jennifer) of Clovis; two daughters, Ellen Harpold (Jeff) of Portales and Leona Johnson (Ron) of Clovis; 16 grandchildren; her mother; a sister, Peggy Downs of Denver.

The Rev. Don Hay will officiate the services.

Honorary pallbearers are members of her family and her friends.
