Ross Spencer Cherry Jr., 83, of Silver City, died Saturday, Nov. 6, 2004, in El Paso, Texas.

He was born on May 4, 1921, in Clovis, to Ross and Maude Cherry.

He married Goldie Stephens on Oct. 4, 1953, in Hobbs. He served in the U.S. Army during World War II. He was a pipe fitter and a welder by trade.

He was preceded in death by his parents; a brother, Delmer Cherry; and a step-daughter, Darlene Gray.

Survivors include his wife; four step-children, Wanda Roberson of Oklahoma City, Albert Stephen (and wife, Sharon) of Carlsbad, Darrell Stephens (Carol) of Mexico, Maine, and Charlotte Darnold (Richard) of Alamogordo; 20 grandchildren; 29 great-grandchildren; 10 great-great-grandchildren; many nephews including, John, Kenneth, and Bill Cherry; many nieces including Ann Goodson; and many brother- and sister-in-laws.

Mike Gray and John Laney officiated the services.

Burial was at Fort Bayard National Cemetery in Fort Bayard.

Pallbearers were grandsons, Robin, Rodney, and Lud Stephens, Mark Gray, and Dale and Tom Darnold.

Arrangements were by Bright Funeral Home of Silver City.
