United Way making final push

Curry County United Way has hit 84 percent of its $392,500 goal this year, according to executive director Erinn Burch.

United Way distributed a press release Friday to local media and donors showing that they still needed $70,000 to reach their communitywide goal. Since then, approximately $7,000 more in donations have been received, bringing the current tally to $328,624.

“We’re just going to have to work pretty hard to contact everyone who is normally a donor, and hopefully get their donation if they are hoping to give this year,” Burch said.

She said at this time last year United Way had received about 90 percent of their goal.

Burch said she is waiting on about $60,000 in donations this year from regular donors, and that should complete their goal.

Burch hopes to have all donations by Dec. 17, so they can begin the budgeting process.

“The heart of United Way is workplace campaigns,” she said. “By reaching out the employees at businesses we can increase the number of people who have the opportunity to give.”

Donations to United Way help families through crisis intervention, by strengthening youth and families, increasing self-sufficiency and putting citizens to work, the press release showed.
