E.J. Gossett, 83

Mr. E. J. Gossett, 83, died Thursday, Dec. 9, 2004, in Portales.

He was born on Sept. 17, 1921, in Ryan, Okla., to Ida and Charlie P. Gossett. He graduated from Floyd High School in 1942, and enlisted in the Army Air Corps. He served for 33 months in North Africa. On July 20, 1945, in Portales, he married Wanda Howard. He was a charter member of the Floyd Senior Citizens and an early participant in what is now known as the Floyd Jamboree. He was a member of the Floyd Methodist Church, and served as chairman of the Administrative Board for 30 years. He was also the song leader and taught an Adult Sunday School Class for many years. Family members said he loved singing, and was a member of the Floyd Quartet which provided special music for many special occasions and gatherings and numerous funerals.

He was preceded in death by his parents; four brothers, Travis, Preston, Virgil and Roy Gossett; and a sister, Bertha Odom.

Survivors include his wife; two daughters, Janice Ogden (and husband, Johnny) of Floyd and Vickie Mitchell (Frank) of Littleton, Colo.; five grandchildren, Debbie Allen (Curtis), Sherrye Smith (Dennis), Tammy Garcia, Belinda McCarthy (Shawn) and Chris Mitchell; 10 great-grandchildren, Taryn and Tanner Allen, Lindsey, Brenden and Trenten Smith, Corey Vandenberg, Mycah Garcia, and Chayce, Brittany, and Rylan McCarthy; a brother, Clifton Gossett (Betty) of Floyd; three sisters-in-law, Alice Gossett and Frances Gossett both of Portales and Vivian Myers (Bud) of Lovington; and numerous nieces and nephews.

The Rev. Mary Sue Hull, assisted by various family members, will officiate the services.

Services are scheduled for 10:30 a.m. Monday at Wheeler Mortuary Chapel in Portales. Burial will be at Portales Cemetery.

Pallbearers are Curtis and Debbie Allen, Dennis and Sherrye Smith, Shawn and Belinda McCarthy, Tammy Garcia and Chris Mitchell.

Honorary Pallbearers are Taryn and Tanner Allen, Lindsey, Brenden and Trenten Smith, Corey Vandenberg, Mycah Garcia, and Chayce, Brittany and Rylan McCarthy.

Memorial contributions may be made to the Floyd Methodist Church.

Dr. Daniel C. Ihde, 61

Daniel Carlyle Ihde, M.D., 61, died Thursday, Dec. 9, 2004, at Sandia Springs Retirement Center in Rio Rancho.

He was born in Parsons, Kan., to Martha and Ira C. Ihde. He grew up in Portales and graduated from Eastern New Mexico University in 1964 with a degree in mathematics. He was a reporter for the Portales News-Tribune during his college years. He earned his medical degree from Stanford University Medical School in 1969. He married Mary Katherine Nanninga in 1968.

Survivors include his wife; his mother; two sons, Steven of San Francisco and Douglas of Palo Alto, Calif.; a sister, Charlotte J. Kiger of Modesto, Calif.

Services are scheduled for 2 p.m. Monday at First Presbyterian Church in Portales. Burial will be at Portales Cemetery.
