ENMU graduate joins CCC board

The Clovis Community College Board of Trustees on Wednesday selected a Clovis schools employee to fill the board’s vacant position.

Arnold A. Martinez, a drug prevention coordinator with Choices Alternative School, was elected unanimously.

Martinez, 53, will replace Charles Guthals in District 2. Guthals left the board in October when he moved out of district.

Martinez holds a masters in education and bachelors of science from Eastern New Mexico University. He is a part time instructor at CCC in psychology and criminal justice. He also serves as a part-time juvenile probation/parole officer for the city.

CCC Vice President Becky Rowley said Martinez will be able to continue teaching at the college and hold a position on the board.

Martinez was the only applicant for the position. A native of Albuquerque and graduate of Sandia High School, Martinez moved to Clovis in 1974.

He and District 1 board member Gayla Brumfield will face election in March of 2007.

“I see CCC continue to grow and serve the community,” Martinez said. “I’ve seen CCC start from the beginning, its grown and l like what I see.”
