Tatum teams win pair against Floyd

TATUM — The Tatum Coyotes broke open a tight game with a late 9-0 run Monday night and beat the Floyd Broncos 54-47.

In girls action, Tatum used a 28-point second quarter to hand the Lady Broncos a 67-45 setback. The games were the season openers for both schools.

Trailing by 10 points after three quarters, the Floyd boys closed to 43-42 with 2 1/2 minutes left before Tatum took off on its decisive run. Grady Herrera led the Coyotes with 20 points, while Logan Henderson and Jesse Montanez each added 10.

For the Broncos, junior Jerrod Long hit four 3-pointers en route to 17 points, and junior Brad Lee chipped in 12.

Tatum’s girls outscored Floyd 28-15 in the second quarter to build a 42-27 halftime lead. Amanda Lopez had 17 points and Sage Jones chipped in 14 for the Lady Coyotes.

Jewlie Paiz was Floyd’s lone double-figure scorer with 16 points.
