Mrs. Berniece “Bea” MeAmber, 82, of Portales, died Saturday, Aug. 28, 2004, at Roosevelt General Hospital in Portales.

She was born on Jan. 7, 1922, in Sullivan, Mo., to Geneva and Rector H. Davis.

She grew up in St. Louis, and graduated from high school in 1940. She married to Charles William MeAmber in October of 1940, in St. Louis. They settled in Tucson, Ariz., where they lived until 1947, when they moved to Chandler, Ariz. In 1960, they moved to Portales, where he was stationed at Cannon Air Force Base and she enjoyed taking classes at Oasis State Park. They lived in Chicago for a short time before returning to Chandler where she worked in the school administration office. In 1977, she moved to Tucson, Ariz., where she worked as a bookkeeper for a local chain of service stations until retiring in 1991. She moved to Portales in 2000 to live with her daughter. She was a member of the Methodist Church.

She was preceded in death by her parents; a brother, Fred “Dwight” Davis; and by her husband.

Survivors include a daughter, Yvette “Candy” Howl (and husband, Glen) of Portales; a sister, Ruth Breuhl; two grandchildren, Michelle Strawn and David Howl; and two great-grandchildren, Justin Strawn and Erica Strawn.
