Lee Vaughn, 81

Mr. Lee Vaughn, 81, of Portales, died Friday, Oct. 29, 2004, at Roosevelt General Hospital in Portales.

He was born on Oct. 17, 1923, in Pontotoc, Okla., to Addie Florence and John Robert Vaughn.

He left Oklahoma when he was 17. He worked in Arizona, California and Texas before coming to Roosevelt County in 1947. Portales remained his home for the rest of his life. He married Fern Luce on June 14, 1949, in Ardmore, Okla. In 1959, they moved to Amarillo. In 1964 they moved back to Portales. He worked as an attendant at local filling stations for many years and for several years he was in partnership with another man in the operation of a local Shell station.

He was preceded in death by his parents; two brothers, Lawrence and Louis Vaughn; four sisters, Lena Belle Watson, Estelle Davis, Dora Dudley, and Imogene Callahan; and by his wife, Fern.

Survivors include five step-sons, Euel Luce of Portales, Nolan Luce (and wife, Pat) of Phoenix, Joe Luce (Vera) of Portales, Jack Luce (Reba) of Caprock, and Ed Luce (Barbara) of Tulsa, Okla.; three step-daughters, Charlene Seales (Clark) of Portales, Darlene Richardson of Hereford, Texas, and Norma Faye Green (Jim) of Odessa, Texas; numerous grandchildren, great-grandchildren and even some great-great-grandchildren; a sister, Maudie Roper of Levelland, Texas; and a number of nieces, nephews and cousins.

Services are scheduled for 2 p.m. Monday at Wheeler Mortuary Chapel in Portales. Kenneth Broad will officiate the services.

Burial will be at Portales Cemetery.

Pallbearers are several of his grandsons.

Jimmy Hawks, 58

Mr. Jimmy Hawks, 59, of Portales, died Wednesday, Oct. 27, 2004, near Moriarty.

He was born on Oct. 31. 1944, in Portales, to Johnny Pauline and Jimmy Hillman Hawks.

He made his home in Portales until 1956 when he moved to Truth or Consequences. He graduated from Hot Springs High School in 1963, and was drafted into the U.S. Army in 1964. He served two years in Texas during that time. He grew up attending the Baptist Church. He worked as a contractor for most of his life. He lived in Truth or Consequences for many years, but had most recently been living in Ninnekah, Okla. He was a member of the Moose Lodge in Truth or Consequences. Family members said his hobbies included silver-smith work, making turquoise jewelry, and listening to classic country music.

He was preceded in death by of his parents.

Survivors include two sons, Russell Hawks of Phoenix, and Shane Hawks of Truth or Consequences; a daughter, Jayme Rintelen of Truth or Consequences; four grandchildren, Tannen Rintelen, Michale Montoya and Vincent Montoya, all of Truth or Consequences, and Schauntae Hawks of Albuquerque; two brothers, John E. Hawks and Bob Hefley, both of Ninnekah, Okla.; and a sister, Jalaine Galleon of Orlando, Fla.

Services are scheduled for 1 p.m. Thursday at Wheeler Mortuary Chapel in Portales. Burial will be at Portales Cemetery.

Pallbearers are several family members.

Arrangement are by Wheeler Mortuary of Portales.

Mr. Tommy McGee, 87, of Portales, died Friday, Oct. 29, 2004, at the VA Hospital in Amarillo.

Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. Wednesday at Wheeler Mortuary Chapel in Portales.

Burial will be at Elida Cemetery.

Arrangements will be announced by Wheeler Mortuary of Portales.
