County manager applications due

CNJ STAFF REPORTS

Curry County officials say they will review applications for a new county manager on Monday and hope to begin interviews for the position two weeks later.

The deadline to apply for the position is 5 p.m. on Friday.

The position became open in September when County Manager Geneva Cooper announced her resignation effective Dec. 17 after 15 years as the county’s top boss.

Cooper said she wants to retire to spend more time with family and pursue other avenues.

Lance Pyle, executive assistant and the county’s indigent specialist, said County Attorney Stephen Doerr and Cooper will visit on Monday to review the applications.

They will then run background checks on qualified candidates, before interviews begin with county commissioners.

Doerr said he’s not sure if the full commission or a committee of commissioners will interview the candidates.

Officials said Wednesday night they did not know how many candidates had applied.
