Mr. S. M. “Sarge” Faulkenburry, 84, of Clovis, died Sunday, Aug. 22, 2004, at Plains Regional Medical Center in Clovis.

He was born on Oct. 8, 1919, in Alto, Texas, to Willie Kate and Eldra A. Faulkenburry.

In Jan. 1942, he joined the Army and served until 1946. He served in Puerto Rico and on the island of Luzon in the Philippines. He was originally in the Coast Artillery, but was later reassigned to the 13th Hospital Division where he was the Assistant to the Fire Marshall. He married Evelyn “Bunch” Judah on June 14, 1944, in Portales. Following the war, he worked in Civil Service on the Fire Department at Cannon Air Force Base. He worked at Kirtland Air Force Base and the Dallas Naval Station. He retired in 1973. They moved back to Clovis in 1978. He was a member of the 16th and Pile Church of Christ. Family members said he enjoyed doing wood working projects, renovating homes, was an avid reader and a student of the Bible.

He was preceded in death by his parents; four brothers; and a sister.

Survivors include his wife; a son, Donald Ray Faulkenburry (and wife, Tessie) of Anchorage, Alaska; two daughters, Carol Ann Pipes (Howard) of Pittsburgh, Kan. and Linda Fay Toney (Robert) of Richmond, Va.; seven grandchildren; four step-grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; and a sister, Berniece Derr of Dallas.

Jim Gammon will officiate the services.

Burial will be at Causey Cemetery.

Pallbearers are Bob Norris, Curtis Tabor, Melburn Johnston, Kenneth Jones, Howard Pipes, and Ribble Holloman.
