Serving Clovis, Portales and the Surrounding Communities
ROSWELL — Roswell Goddard rallied from a 2-1 deficit in games Tuesday night to edge the Portales Lady Rams 25-19, 25-27, 16-25, 25-20, 15-6 in a non-district volleyball matchup.
The Lady Rockets, who beat Portales in three games earlier this month at the PHS gym, improved to 8-3 with the victory. The Lady Rams saw their record fall to 3-9.
No other details were available at press time.
Portales returns to action Thursday with a 5 p.m. matchup against West Las Vegas at the PHS gym.
Elida wins in three — The Elida Lady Tigers got off to a fast start and made short work of House Tuesday night, beating the Cowgirls 25-11, 25-13, 25-18 at House.
It was the second win over House this season for Elida (9-3).
“We played pretty well,” Elida coach Darrell Chenault said. “We served extremely well; we probably only had five (missed) serves tonight, and we were serving pretty aggressive too.”
House beat the Lady Tigers in the junior high preliminary 25-19, 18-25, 15-10.
Elida’s next outing is Thursday in a District 3-1A matchup at home against Floyd.
Floyd falls at Melrose — The Floyd Lady Broncos won the first game, but couldn’t build on their momentum and dropped a 22-25, 25-22, 25-13, 25-23 decision at the hands of Melrose on Tuesday night.
The Lady Buffaloes avenged an earlier loss to the Lady Broncos (5-9, 1-4 district) at Floyd.
Melrose senior Audrey Hemminger, a 6-footer, caused a lot of havoc for the smaller Lady Broncos, Floyd coach Sean Wootton said.
“Hemminger just tore us up at the net,” he said. “She did a good job of splitting the coverage.
“We just put ourselves in seven-point deficits (in the second and third games), and it was just too hard to battle back.”
