Thelma S. Bailey, 88

Mrs. Thelma S. Bailey, 88, of Clovis, died Thursday, Sept. 23, 2004, in Logan.

She was born on Dec. 13, 1915, in Atoka, Okla., to W.O. and Bessie Shelton.

She was a past president of the American Business Women’s Association. She was a member of Central Baptist Church and the Clovis Community Theatre. After her civil service retirement she was a member of the Sarah Coventry 2 Million Dollar Club. Family members said she was an avid fisherwoman.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Leslie A. “Red” Bailey; a daughter, Beverly Sue; and a son, Kenny Leslie.

Survivors include a daughter, Lynda Hacic (and husband, Dennis) of Hurst, Texas; two sons, Jeff Bailey (Angie) of Logan and Mike Bailey of Clovis; two sisters, Coelita Eldridge of Clovis and Alma Inman of Hereford; six grandchildren, Scott Thompson, Laurie Lambert, Jeffry Bailey, Shane Bailey, Erin Rowley and Mikail Tinker.

Services are scheduled for 10 a.m. Monday at Central Baptist Church in Clovis. The Reverend Joseph Vest will officiate the services.

Burial will be at Tucumcari Memorial Park.

Pallbearers Jeffry and Shane Bailey, Scott Thompson, Kurt Rowley, Michael Tinker and Rick Lambert.

Arrangements are by Steed-Todd Funeral Home of Clovis.

Inez Brewer, 78

Mrs. Inez Brewer, 78, of Clovis, died Friday, Sept. 24, 2004, at Plains Regional Medical Center in Clovis.

She was born on Sept. 7, 1926, in Gillham, Ark., to John Robert and Addie Hayden Overturf.

She married Riley Brewer on Sept. 13, 1941. Family members said she was a wonderful cook and talented with crafts, knitting and crocheting.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband; four brothers; a sister; and a great-granddaughter.

Survivors include four sons, Jim Brewer (and wife, Irene) of Yuma, Ariz., Doug Brewer of Clovis, Don Brewer (Sherri) of San Antonio, Texas, and Terry Brewer of Edgewood; three daughters, Pat Mason, Vicki Morris (Leon) and Denise Durham, all of Clovis; a brother; four sisters; 21 grandchildren; 38 great-grandchildren; three great-great-grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews.

No services will be held. Cremation has taken place.

Memorial contributions may be made to the St. Jude’s Cancer Center for Children.

Alice Ellis, 61

Ms. Alice Ellis, 61, of Portales, died Friday, Sept. 24, 2004, at Covenant Medical Center in Lubbock.

She was born on May 22, 1943, in Henderson, Texas, to Twyla and Julius K. Smith.

She was a member of the Church of Jesus Christ Latter Day Saints. She lived the majority of her life in east Texas. She moved to Portales in 1999 and had been in poor health since moving. She was moved to the Good Samaritan Nursing Home in Lovington about four months ago.

She was preceded in death by her parents; and a sister, Kathy Brandenburg.

Survivors include a daughter, Amanda Ellis of Portales; two grandchildren, Emily and Jonathan Mendez; a brother, Kenny Smith of Henderson, Texas; a sister-in-law, Doris Smith of Clovis; three nephews, Jimmy and Joey Smith and Jay Brandenburg (and wife, Christine), all of Portales; two great-nieces; and two great-nephews.

Services are scheduled for 11 a.m. Monday at Portales Cemetery. Merlin Carling and Larry Skelley will officiate the services.

Burial will be at Portales Cemetery.

Honorary pallbearers are all family members.

Arrangements are by Wheeler Mortuary of Portales.

Boe and Amanda Garrison

Mr. and Mrs. Boe and Amanda Garrison, of Clovis, died Wednesday, Sept. 22, 2004.

Boe Garrison was born on Oct. 18, 1968. Amanda Garrison was born on April 5, 1965.

After graduating from Tucumcari High School, Mr. Garrison served his country in the U.S. Navy. He was a veteran of Desert Storm. He went on to serve with the New Mexico State Police and recently as an officer with the Clovis Police Department. Family members said his hobbies included hunting, singing and as his daughter put it, “sleeping and playing games on TV.”

Mrs. Garrison was in her third year as pastor at the Methodist Church in Grady, where she started an after-school program. Family members said she enjoyed working with the church, visiting friends, spending time with her family and she always had a hug to match her giving heart.

The couple is survived by three children, Casey and Jacob Gaines and Alexandria Garrison.

Mr. Garrison’s survivors include his father, Bill Garrison of Albuquerque; his mother, Sharon Potter of Portales; three brothers, Bart Garrison (and wife, Arlene) of Alamogordo, Ben Garrison (Mary) of Zeeland, Mich., and Bradley Garrison of Fort Worth, Texas; two sisters, Shareen King (John) of Portales and Sherrie Archuleta (Michael) of Roswell; a grandmother, Mary C. Garrison of Mosquero; and grandparents, Ben and Nita Crane of Yarnell, Ariz.

Mrs. Garrison’s survivors include her mother, Donna Knight of Clovis; and a brother, Alan Knight (and wife, Patty) of Nehawka, Neb.

Numerous aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews and cousins survive both.

Services are scheduled for 10 a.m. Monday at First United Methodist Church in Clovis. The Rev. Danny Sanders will officiate the services assisted by the Rev. Kevin Bushart, Steve McElroy, the Rev. Amy Jordan, the Rev. Marty Singleterry and the Rev. Mary Sue Hall.

Honorary pallbearers were the Clovis Police Department Honor Guard.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Portales National Bank in care of Roosevelt County General Foundation Fund for the Garrison family.
