Shooting suspect arrested

Clovis police arrested two men late Friday evening in connection with last month’s slaying of a 31-year-old Clovis man.

Byron Logan, 22, of Clovis, was arrested without incident at his residence and is charged with an open count of murder in the death of Tony Parker. Parker was shot to death in the early morning hours of Aug. 21 near the Clovis Apartments in the 1000 block of North Martin Luther King Boulevard, officials said.

Police also arrested Carlos Gallo, 19, of Clovis, for harboring or aiding a felon and tampering with evidence.

Tony Parker’s sister, Mary Parker, said Logan had been in the area for some time and she knew him growing up.

“I am glad he is off these streets, and we hope he’ll be locked up for a long time,” she said. “A whole bunch of people were happy about this ...”

She said she still did not know why her brother was killed, but that family and friends were pleased to hear the news of Logan’s arrest Friday. Parker’s two children — Mariah, 10, and Tony, 8 — are with their mother and seem to be doing OK, she said.

Detective Roger Grah said he did not think the slaying was gang related, but that the incident may have occurred after someone felt disrespected.

“Parker was not affiliated with a gang, but he just knew them all,” Grah said. “Parker lived down there, he knew which gang everybody was in.”

Gallo was implicated in the crime when he obtained possession of the handgun used in the slaying, and then got rid of it, Grah said.

Logan is being held on a $250,000 bond at the Curry County Adult Detention Center.

Gallo is being held on $10,000 cash-only bond.

Clovis police would not release the name of the witness that led to the arrests of Logan and Gallo.

Police said Parker suffered multiple wounds, but they could not determine at the scene how many times he had been shot.

Grah said the Office of the Medical Investigator has not yet produced an official report.
