Marvin Craig, 60

Mr. Marvin Craig, 60, of Portales, died Wednesday, Sept. 8, 2004, at his home.

He was born on July 17, 1944, in Bloomington, Ill., to Edith L. and Richard A. Craig.

He spent his early childhood in Illinois and lived for a short time in Arizona before coming to Portales as a teenager. He began working as a truck driver. He married Peggy Williams on June 20, 1964, in Portales. He worked for several trucking companies before being employed by Welch Trucking, where he worked for many years. For the past few years, he was employed by Richardson Trucking. Family members said he enjoyed hunting and farming with his brother-in-law, Kenneth Williams, fishing with his grandchildren and the company of his faithful dog, Gus.

He was preceded in death by his parents; and a brother, Doug Craig.

Survivors include Peggy Craig of Portales; two sons, Kevin Craig (and wife, Barbara) of Portales and Keith Craig of Bandera, Texas; six grandchildren; Dustin Craig, who is currently serving in the U.S. Marine Corps in Iraq and Jenalee, Kory Lee, Amanda, Matthew and Kaycee Craig, all of Portales; and four sisters: Donna, Leona, Leah, and Linda.

Services are scheduled for 10:30 a.m. Monday at Wheeler Mortuary Chapel in Portales. Marlin Poynor will officiate the services.

Burial will be at Portales Cemetery.

Pallbearers are Roger Thetford, Dub Rackley, James Turner, Eric Neace, Stan Wooley and Earl Taylor.

Honorary pallbearers are Ed Burrow, Ken Richardson, L.D. Burrow and all of his friends.

Arrangements are by Wheeler Mortuary of Portales.

Nora Jones, 86

Mrs. Nora E. Jones, 86, of Clovis, died Sunday, Sept. 5, 2004, in Salt Lake City.

She was born on March 18, 1918, in Snyder, Okla., to Tom and Bertha Perry.

She married Clifton M. Jones on July 15, 1938, in Cortez, Colo. She was a member of 16th & Pile Church of Christ in Clovis.

She was preceded in death by her husband; her parents; three sisters; two brothers; and two grandsons.

Survivors include a sister, Fanny White of Wenatchee, Wash.; three daughters, Joyce Jones of Clovis, Wanda Box (and husband, Jake) of Portales and Carol Roberts (Bill) of Belen; three sons, Kenneth Jones (Jo) and Gary Jones, both of Clovis and Clifford Jones (Pam) of Lafayette, La.; 16 grandchildren; and 22 great-grandchildren.

Services are scheduled for 2 p.m. today at 16th & Pile Church of Christ in Clovis. Jim Gammon will officiate the services.

Burial will be at Mission Garden of Memories in Clovis.

Pallbearers are Darren Jones, Jeff and Dale Roberts, Cecil Samora, Cody Jones, Layton Priest, Mike Denny and David Herzing.

Honorary pallbearers are Shavon Kuykendall, Jenny Denny, Amanda Samora, Roxanna Priest, Jill Jones and Michelle, Shelley Herzing and Tammy Roberts.
