Jack Morgan, 80

Jack M. Morgan, 80, of Farmington, a former New Mexico state senator, died Wednesday, Aug. 11, 2004, in Farmington.

He was born on Jan. 15, 1924, in Portales, to George Albert and Mary Rosana Baker Morgan.

He was a World War II veteran, serving as an officer on the U.S.S. Mitchell, destroyer escort, in the United States Navy from 1942 to 1946. He graduated from the University of Texas at Austin in 1948 and received his law degree from UT in 1950.

Morgan accepted an appointment in 1973 to fill the unexpired term of Sen. Don Hargrove. He served as state senator representing San Juan County from 1973 to 1988. He served on the judiciary and education committees, the revenue stabilization committee and the environmental health study committee, was chairman of the Southwest regional energy council and the four corners transportation committee.

He was a Republican candidate for New Mexico governor in 1986. He was a member of the Kiwanis Club in Portales and Farmington and the Elks Club in Farmington. He was admitted to the New Mexico Bar in 1950 and practiced in New Mexico for his entire 54-year career.

Survivors include his wife, Peggy Flynn Cummings Morgan; his children, Marilyn Morgan Montoya, Rebecca Morgan, Claudia Morgan-Gray and Jack MacGee Morgan Jr.; and other family, Patrick Montoya, Elaine Hinnant, Weldon R. Gray, Hannah Morgan, Jessica May, John May, Grace May, Amanda Morgan, Mary Morgan, Zachary Moreno, Lori Edney, Brittany Edney, Danielle Edney, Debbie Badger, Corky Francis, Bobbi Morgan and Roger Sheak.

Services are scheduled for 1 p.m. today at the First Presbyterian Church in Farmington.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to the Connley Hospitality House, the Northwest Hospice or the charity of choice.

Arrangements are by Brewer, Lee and Larkin Funeral Home of Farmington.

Emmanuel Ernesto Orona

Emmanuel Ernesto Orona, 4-day-old infant, of Portales, died Wednesday, Aug. 11, 2004, at University Medical Center in Lubbock.

He was born on Aug. 7, 2004, in Clovis, to Barbara Gallegos and Salvador Orona.

Survivors include his parents; his grandparents, Kathy Gallegos and Rosa and Ernesto Orona, all of Portales, and Augustin Gallegos of Tucumcari; and a sister, Angelina Kathleen Orona of Portales.

Services are scheduled for 3 p.m. today at Portales Cemetery. A rosary is scheduled for 2 p.m. today at the home of Ernesto and Rosa Orona, 621 S. Ave A in Portales.

Burial will be at Portales Cemetery.

Arrangements are by Wheeler Mortuary of Portales.
