Marcos Baca, 21

Mr. Marcos Leandro “Lee” Baca, 21, of Las Cruces, died Sunday, July 25, 2004, in Las Cruces.

He was born on Feb. 12, 1983, in Portales, to Terri and Marcos Baca.

He lived in various communities, but mostly in Portales until he completed the ninth grade. During those years he played Little League Baseball and was active in MENSA. His family moved to Springer for a short time before moving to Tucumcari where he completed high school at Tucumcari High School in 2001. During the summers he worked for the New Mexico State Park system at Conchas Lake. He was a senior at NMSU where he was majoring in English. Family members said he enjoyed carving and painting, sketching and crafts of all types. He enjoyed working on cars, skate boarding, reading and writing stories.

Survivors include his parents; a brother, Abel Baca of Portales; his fiancé, Ricci Montes of Las Cruces; his maternal grandparents, JoAnn and Ray Nials of Tucumcari; his paternal grandparents, Leonela and Isaias Baca of Portales; four uncles, Dustin Nials (and wife, Relissa) of Tucumcari, Armando Baca and Max Baca, both of Portales and Timoteo Baca (Carole) of Killeen, Texas; and three aunts, Delores Baca of Clovis, Jeanne Medina (Jimmy) of Albuquerque and Tammy Hall and John Bauler of Tucumcari.

Services are scheduled for 2 p.m. Friday at St. Helen Catholic Church in Portales. A rosary is scheduled for 7 p.m. Thursday at St. Helen Catholic Church in Portales.

Father Anthony L. Martinez will officiate the services.

Burial will be at Portales Cemetery.

Pallbearers are Abel Baca, Luis Quezada, Randy Tapia, Evan Gutierrez, Dustin Nials, Fred Chino Jr., Ryan Santa and Armando Baca.

Honorary pallbearers are Devin Kanapilly, Cory Valencia, Mario Serrano and Christopher Hall.

Arrangements are by Wheeler Mortuary of Portales.

Geneva Tomlinson, 98

Mrs. Geneva “Mrs. Robert” Tomlinson, 98, of Carlsbad, died Wednesday, June 23, 2004, at Landsun Retirement Home in Carlsbad.

She was born on Sept. 28, 1905, in Lamont in Oklahoma Territory, to Fred and Anna Westbrook.

Her family moved to New Mexico in 1906 and homesteaded in the Rogers area of Roosevelt County. She attended school in Rogers through the eighth grade and graduated from Portales High School in 1924. She married the Rev. Robert O. Tomlinson on May 29, 1929, in Roswell. They moved to Portales to spend their retirement years in 1968 after 20 moves and church assignments. In 1983 she and her husband moved to Landsun Retirement Home in Carlsbad. She was a member of the First United Methodist Church in Carlsbad.

She was preceded in death by her parents; a brother, Paul Westbrook; a son, Leonard Tomlinson; and by her husband.

Survivors include Robert and Donna Tomlinson of Houston; a daughter, Louise Burnette (and husband, Bob) of New Bern, N.C.; eight grandchildren; and 12 great-grandchildren.

Services are scheduled for 1 p.m. Friday at First United Methodist Church in Portales. The Rev. Harry Riser will officiate the services.

Burial will be at Portales Cemetery.
