Hounds junior named All-Region

OVERLAND PARK, Kan. — Eastern New Mexico University junior forward Jamaal Hunnicutt has been selected to the National Association of Basketball Coaches’ South Central Region all-district team for the 2003-04 season.

The selections are voted on by NABC members, and are intended to “recognize the country’s best men’s collegiate basketball student-athletes,” according to a release from the organization.

Hunnicutt, a 6-foot-5 forward, helped ENMU to a 20-9 record and its second consecutive Lone Star Conference South Division championship.

He shot 49 percent from the field and 73 percent from the free throw line, and led the Greyhounds in scoring (12.6 ppg), rebounding (8.8), steals (48) and blocked shots (33), while finishing one behind team leader Brent Cooper in assists with 86.

First-team selections included Darnell Hinson of Northeastern State, Tim Burnette of Tarleton State, Kelvin Parker of Northwest Missouri State, Rod Prater of West Texas A&M and Robert Hamilton of Texas A&M-Kingsville.

Joining Hunnicutt on the second team were Will Brown of Texas A&M-Kingsville, Jamie Richardson of Pittsburg State (Kan.), Chris Mortellaro of Drury (Mo.) and Ike Muonelo of Missouri-Rolla.

Lonn Reisman of Tarleton State and Washburn’s Bob Chipman were chosen as co-coaches of the year for the district.
