Cameron University won five of six singles matches in straight sets Friday and the Lady Aggies handed Eastern New Mexico University a 7-2 loss in a women’s tennis dual matchup at Zia Tennis Complex.
Senior Bethanie Nix posted the Zias’ only win in singles, a 6-1, 6-4 decision over Sandra Leigh-King. In doubles, sophomore Rhiannon Torrez and junior Janelle Sanchez teamed for an 8-3 verdict over CU’s Carolina Vera-Vera and Marianne Reeves at No. 2.
Cameron improved to 11-5 with the victory, while the Zias fell to 4-6.
Gerleve wins in javelin
STEPHENVILLE, Texas — Freshman Zach Gerleve was Eastern New Mexico University’s lone winner in Thursday’s Tarleton Relays track meet, taking men’s javelin competition with a throw of 193 feet, 4 inches.
Three other Greyhounds earned top-six finishes in the meet — Ricardo Hernandez, 15 minutes, 44.71 seconds for third in the 5,000-meter run; Kevin Simon, 40-7 1/2 for fourth in triple jump, and Dustin Henry, 15.31 for fifth in the 110 hurdles.
In women’s competition, Charlotte Sanchez placed fourth at 109-6 and Rachel Loya was sixth at 104-7 in javelin.
