Fabian DeAtocha Chavez, 28, of San Antonio, died Sunday, Feb. 22, 2004, at his home.

He was born on Dec. 28, 1975, in Clovis, to Manuel DeAtocha Chavez and Loretta Marie Moreno.

He worked for the Clovis News Journal from 1998 until 2003. He moved to San Antonio in July of 2003 where he worked for San Antonio Express News. Family members said he loved to read R.A. Salvatore books, enjoyed drawing with charcoal and pencil and his favorite artist was M.C. Escher.

He was preceded in death by his grandfather, Robert Moreno; his father, Mike Garcia; his grandparents, Frank and Angie Chavez; a cousin, Mark Moreno; and an uncle, Steve Moreno.

Survivors include his grandmother, Marie Moreno of Clovis; his parents, Loretta M. Garcia of San Antonio and Manuel Chavez (and wife, Priscilla) of Clovis; seven brothers, Manuel Jr. and Juan Andres Chavez, both of Phoenix, Carlos Chavez, Robert Gutierrez and Joseph C. Garcia, all of Clovis, Orlando Lopez of Ellsworth Air Force Base, S.D. and Daniel B. Garcia of Burbank, Calif.; four sisters, Maggie Chavez of Clovis, Melissa Lewter, Iris Lopez and Aniceta Lopez, all of San Antonio.

A rosary is scheduled for 7 tonight at Our Lady of Guadalupe Church in Clovis.

Father Sotero Sena will officiate the services.

Burial will be at Mission Garden of Memories in Clovis.

Pallbearers are Orlando Lopez Jr., Frank Saiz, Antre Gonzalez, Alfonso Baiza, Michael Urioste and Manuel Jr., Juan Andres and Carlos Chavez.

Honorary pallbearers are Jason Saiz, Joseph Garcia and fellow employees at the Clovis News Journal and the San Antonio Express News.

Arrangements are by Muffley Funeral Home of Clovis.
