Enrollment up at Clovis College

Final enrollment figures for the Fall 2003 term at Clovis Community College were announced Wednesday at a board meeting. The figures comprise the regular fall semester, the fall eight-week terms, the short courses and workshops offered during the period of August through December 2003.

When compared with the fall 2002 term, the fall 2003 full time equivilency (FTE) has increased from 1,745 to 1,903, representing a 9.05 percent increase, officials said.

Santa Fe voters pass mill levy

SANTA FE — Santa Fe voters have approved the renewal of a 1.5 mill property tax for school building and maintenance.

‘‘We need the money for doing maintenance and repairs on the buildings,’’ said Tom Hitch, a 49-year-old father who voted Tuesday.

One polling place was located in a spruced up building at Gonzales Elementary — a testament to the work of the 1999 mill levy, which expires this summer. The district spent $2.2 million to add a library, remove asbestos, refurbish classrooms, upgrade electrical systems and replace windows at Gonzales.

The mill levy was approved with 6,350 votes in favor and 1,740 people voting against, according to preliminary results.

The 1999 property tax will be renewed for another five years at the same rate, which does not require a tax increase.
