Frenship is struggling at under .500 a year after going 30-8 and reaching the Class 4A regional semifinals. ... The Tigers have size in 6-6 senior Brendan Cimino and 6-4 sophomore Nick Evans. Evans is Frenship’s leading scorer at 12.9 points and senior Blake Sutton adds 12.8 a game. Sutton is the only returning starter. Clovis coach J.D. Isler said Frenship likes to push the ball up the floor and anticipates an uptempo game. Frenship thumped Clovis 73-51 last year behind 6-7 twins Harold and Darold Crow, who graduated and are playing at Seminole Junior College in Oklahoma. ... Senior Justin Pinckney (18.1) is the leading scorer for the Wildcats, who have won six straight since losing to defending Class 5A champion La Cueva in the semifinals of the Capital City Classic in Santa Fe. Junior Dominique Easterlin (13.6) and senior Mario Caswell (10.3) are also averaging in double figures for Clovis. After a slow start, Caswell has scored in double figures in three of the last five games.

Tascosa is coming off a sixth-place finish in last week’s Plateau Holiday Classic in Clovis. Courtney Sanders and Lindsey McNeeley were the leading scorers in the tournament for the undersized Lady Rebels of Amarillo ... Clovis coach Miles Watters said Tascosa is a better team than they showed, playing Frenship (Texas) within six points. Clovis beat Frenship 61-47 on Dec. 15. ... Clovis is coming off its most impressive win of the season, routing Class 3A power Portales 57-39 in the Plateau Classic title game. Tournament MVP Brittany Blackmon averaged 15 points in three tournament games for the Lady Wildcats, who have won five straight.
