Sandra Marie Jones Massengill, 59, of Las Cruces, died Saturday, Nov. 22, 2003, at her home.

She was born on May 10, 1944, in Clovis, to David Jones and Betty Been.

She graduated from Western New Mexico University in 1964.

Following the achievement of a master’s degree from the University of North Carolina, she established her business career in El Paso, Texas, with an import business called Jones Enterprises.

She moved back to Silver City in 1980, where she remodeled the Clark Motel into the successful and popular Piñon Plaza.

She married Jim Massengill. They continued remodeling and developing properties, including the College Street Plaza. Family members said she enjoyed finding property investment opportunities and continued working on development and management of her many projects from her home.

Survivors include her husband; her mother; an uncle, “Tio” George Been of Hatchita; and many cousins, nieces and nephews.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Sandra Massegill, First Savings Bank, 2804 N. Telshor, Las Cruces, NM 88011.
