J.D. Freeman, 83

J. D. Freeman, 83, of Causey, died Saturday, Nov. 15, 2003, at Covenant Medical Center in Lubbock.

He was born on Oct. 9, 1920, in Wade, Okla., to Pairlee and John S. Freeman.

Mr. Freeman’s family moved to Honey Grove, Texas, when he was small. After the death of his mother in 1934, he moved to California with his father. During World War II he served in the Army Medical Corps in New Guinea, New Zealand, Japan and Australia. After the war he returned to Anton, and married Dorothy Hughes. They moved to Causey in 1956. His first wife died in 1965. On July 30, 1969, in Littlefield, Texas, he married Gladys Bradley. Mr. Freeman farmed and ranched all of his life.

He was preceded in death by his parents; brothers, Roy, David and Oscar Freeman; sisters, Clara Freeman, Ina Brickley and Idell Butler; a step-son, Charles Reichle and his first wife.

He is survived by his wife, Gladys, of the home in Causey; three step sons, Don Bradley (and wife, Lavada) of Lubbock, Jason Bradley of Lubbock and Gene Reichle of Cleburne, Texas; three step daughters, Elaine Funk of Amarillo, Patti Darwin (Howard) of Lubbock and Janice Lee Kinard of Cisco, Texas; and by numerous grandchildren, great-grandchildren and several nieces and nephews, including Geneva Davis of Roswell, Floradell Parker of Anton, Linda Beth Beige of Anton and Shirley Goen of Shallowater, Texas.

Services will be officiated by the Rev. Sam Kelley.

Burial will be at 3 p.m. (CST) Tuesday at Anton Cemetery.

Pallbearers are Carl Goen, Howard Parker, Buddy Weige, Gary Phipps, Lynn Phipps, Phil Phipps and Dewaine Phipps.

Arrangements are by Wheeler Mortuary of Portales.

Services are at 10 a.m. Tuesday at Causey Baptist Church.

Jeanetta Purcell, 80

Jeanetta Purcell, 80, of Portales, died Saturday, Nov. 15, 2003, at her home in Portales. Services will be announced by Wheeler Mortuary of Portales. Services are pending.
