Manzano shuts out Cats

The Manzano Monarchs handed Clovis High a 3-0 loss on Saturday in District 4-5A boys soccer at Yucca Complex.

Joaquin Herrera and Rogilio Martinez scored in the first half for Manzano (7-9-1, 3-5 district), while Gerad Malone added a goal after halftime.

The Cats (2-15, 0-7) close the regular season with a district match at Carlsbad on Tuesday.

MANZANO GIRLS 6, CLOVIS 1 — At Albuquerque, the host Lady Monarchs broke open a close game with four second-half goals on Saturday en route to a District 4-5A win.

Raquel DeLeon scored the for the Lady Wildcats (2-15, 0-7) with about 25 minutes left in the first half on an assist from Jessica Roark.

“The girls played pretty good considering it was cold and windy,” CHS girls coach Larry Jones said. “(Manzano) caught a couple of goals from about 30 yards out where the ball just got over the keeper.”

Manzano took the JV game 10-0. The Lady Cats host Carlsbad Tuesday at Yucca Soccer Complex, with the varsity game set for 6 p.m.
